Public Schools

Shreveport provides residents a range of public school options for every grade level, including many with high student achievement. Students can explore special interests with focused, industry-based curricula, including biotechnology and robotics. In addition, several public high schools offer extensive college preparatory opportunities.

Caddo Parish Public Schools encompasses the flavor and diversity of the community we serve. Our district is comprised of 58 schools representing students from rural, suburban and urban areas of Caddo Parish. Caddo is home to 12 National Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence earning 15 awards as designated by the U.S. Department of Education while boasting several of the state’s top-performing schools. The district is currently home to 10 students with perfect ACT scores and 16 National Merit Scholarship Finalists.

As one of the largest school districts in the state of Louisiana, Caddo serves approximately 37,000 students in grades prekindergarten through 12th grade. Mirroring the community we serve, 71 percent of students attending Caddo Parish Public Schools represent minority populations with 72 percent of students in poverty. The district is also one of the largest employers in the region with nearly 5,400 employees.

Magnet School Programs

The Magnet School programs in Caddo Public Schools challenge students with multiple unique academic programs. These rigorous programs are accessible to students who live in the parish in which each school resides. Parents can expect a competitive, open enrollment process coupled with high admission standards that consistently propel magnet schools in the region near the top of the Louisiana Department of Education public school rankings.  

SELECTED CADDO PARISH SCHOOLS

Caddo Magnet High is a public college preparatory school for academics and performing arts. We are nationally recognized by U.S. News and World Report as a Silver Medal winner (in the top 3% of high schools) and by the U.S. Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School (for academic superiority). We are the highest “A” rated high school in northern Louisiana.  The school was recently chosen as the Best Public High School in Shreveport Bossier by the readers of SB Magazine for the second year in a row.

Affectionately known as ‘The City‘, Byrd is a unique school which excels in motivating students who not only achieve academic excellence but also develop a sense of fair play and competition in athletics, and who acquire social skills and leadership through their  participation in a wide variety of extracurricular activities.

Captain Shreve High School is home to high-performing, multi-talented students and staff. Shreve is a neighborhood school with an Engineering & Liberal Arts Magnet component.  Shreve students have the opportunity to participate in the AP Capstone program at one of only five eligible schools in Louisiana. Shreve offers 22 LHSAA sanctioned sports and over 40 extracurricular clubs and organizations for students to find their niche and grow their leadership skills.

Caddo Parish Middle Magnet School is a magnet school located in Shreveport, LA, which is in a mid-size city setting. The student population of Caddo Parish Middle Magnet School is 1,002 and the school serves 6-8. At Caddo Parish Middle Magnet School, 79% of students scored at or above the proficient level for math, and 93% scored at or above that level for reading.

A challenging curriculum is offered for all students in a nurturing environment that accelerates language arts, math, science, and social studies. Literature and creative writing are the cornerstones of our language arts program. Emphasis is placed on a hands-on, problem-solving approach in math and science, while history and problem solving develop a solid foundation of social studies.

Claiborne Fundamental Elementary School is a magnet school located in Shreveport, LA, which is in a mid-size city setting. The student population of Claiborne Fundamental Elementary School is 407 and the school serves K-5. At Claiborne Fundamental Elementary School, 52% of students scored at or above the proficient level for math, and 77% scored at or above that level for reading.

We strive to develop student leaders with active and creative minds, a sense of understanding and compassion for others, and the courage to act on their beliefs. Through the “Leader In Me” process, we want to support our students in building cooperative relationships, nurture self-confidence and create critical thinkers and problem solvers who are goal oriented students and leaders of their own learning.

Fairfield Magnet School is a magnet school located in Shreveport, LA, which is in a mid-size city setting. The student population of Fairfield Magnet School is 485 and the school serves PK-5. At Fairfield Magnet School, 86% of students scored at or above the proficient level for math, and 86% scored at or above that level for reading.

Private Schools

Many private schools in the Shreveport-Bossier area also provide a premier educational experience for students at all levels. Small class sizes allow for in-depth learning and a collaborative environment. In addition, numerous private schools in the northwest region offer faith-based courses for students to explore religious principles.
